Camp at ALC and Summer Activities for Kids

11694767_746752285447015_3066337942795937915_nSummer is here! While it’s the calendar may still say spring, most school-aged kids are out for the summer holiday this week. While we love all the routine and friends we see during the school year at Adventure Learning Center, we are so excited for our summer programs to start! With many summer activities for kids on the schedule and all the amazing things Missouri has to offer this season, we are ready for a jam-packed season.

Our school age groups will have outings almost every day, whether it’s a visit to play at the park, a swim in the pool, or a special trip to Grant’s Farm. Our mini adventures are always such a joy and we can’t wait to get started. Our camps have a fantastic curriculum that takes advantage of all that the summer in Missouri has to offer. We help the children to discover science, explore nature, and engage in the creative arts, while learning hands on.

If you want to duplicate some of the adventures we take at ALC, or maybe you are looking for some fun activities for the whole family, we have some fantastic ideas to keep your little ones busy this summer. Here are some of our teacher’s favorite ideas for summer time fun in St. Louis. From concerts and movies to festivals and tours, Missouri has tons of family friendly and free things to do this summer.

  1. Enjoy animal shows and petting zoos as you get up close with antelope, zebras, bison and more at Grant’s Farm. Some campers may get to take a trip this summer with ALC, but this is also such a fun day activity for the whole family. Admission is free, but you do have to pay to park.
  2. See beautiful birds of all kinds at the Wild Bird Sanctuary. There is nothing like this place! Kids will love seeing the birds, and it’s a nice break from the hot sun on a summer St. Louis day.
  3. Catch a St. Louis Cardinals game! No matter what time of year, this is a blast for the whole family. Check out the game schedule for family nights and events.
  4. Play in Forest Park. Even a simple day playing at the park is enough for the kiddos in the summer. Grab a picnic lunch, some bubbles, a kite and you are set for the day! Take a ride in the famous paddleboats or cool off inside the Missouri History Museum.
  5. Explore the Magic House. We make sure to take a trip each summer to the Magic House with the campers, but we highly recommend place this for a family day out too! The Magic House engages kids in hands-on learning, creativity, sensory, problem-solving, and experimentation. This joyous place is so fun for children of all ages.
  1. Visit the Missouri Botanical Garden. On a cooler summer day head to the Missouri Botanical Garden. They have an incredible Children’s Garden where the kids c11262153_748334345288809_6579775465411533297_nan discover, explore, pretend, search, observe and more. Learn about plants, nature, and sustainability through hands-on activities offered daily.

We will share pictures of our adventures on the Facebook page. Please share your adventures with us too! We would love to see them. We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe summer! Share with us your favorite family friendly activity in the area. If you are interested in childcare for the summer, or for the entire year, contact us at ALC.
